& Pettigrew State Park |

| Seven miles
south of Creswell, this 16,600-acre lake is only 4.5 to 9
feet deep. Lake Phelps' most interesting discovery is a
collection of approximately 30 ancient dugout canoes, one of
which is nearly 4,400 years old. Remnants of two of the
canoes are on display at Pettigrew State Park. paddling,
wind surfing and fishing for species like large mouth bass,
yellow perch and pumpkin seed as well as a variety of large
and small game are enjoyed by hunters. |

Park contains some of eastern North Carolina's last virgin
forests. Boat ramp, campsites-both primitive and RV —
