Pungo Lake & Pocosin Lakes NWR
Pungo Lake is part of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, this lake is a sanctuary for many wildlife species and their habitats especially over wintering snow geese. Managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the refuge offers hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, birding and paddling.

Pocosin Lakes NWR is adjacent to Pungo National Wildlife Refuge and includes both Pungo Lake and Lake Phelps as well as parts of the Scuppernong and Alligator Rivers. Observe swans, geese, ducks, deer and bear from the road or from an observation tower on the south side of Pungo Lake. Call 252-793-4431.
