County's Farm-City Festival is part of a
national event celebrating the partnership of farmers, who
grow our food, with others who process, transport and retail
farm products to the consumer. Farm-City Festival
emphasizes the fact that all these players are there to ensure
a wholesome, safe and plentiful supply of food for the
nation.
Washington County began its
participation in this celebration around 30 years ago with a
crafts fair. Today, Washington county still showcases its own
craftsmen during Farm-City Festival, but the
event's success attracts artisans from across eastern North
Carolina. Equipment displays, petting zoos, hay rides,
contests and other exhibits help educate the public about
agriculture and provide family fun...all on a backdrop of live
entertainment by local and area entertainers. Of course,
you'd expect good home-cooked food and you wouldn't be
disappointed! Bake sales, hot dogs, chicken and barbeque
top the list but you can find even more.
Farm-City Festival
continues to be an important part of Washington County's
community life. Along with the fun, the annual event typically
brings in around $12,000 for the day excluding money spent by
visitors and out-of-area participants on gas, rooms, etc. in
the Plymouth area. |
