n annual celebration
is held on the first Saturday of June. The grounds and
buildings come alive with activity including demonstrations of
old-time skills like shingle making, hog killing, cow
milking, molasses squeezing, cotton seeding, peanut poppings,
corn huskings, weaving, quilting, making featherbeds, washing
clothes and even making liquor. Live
music, barn dancing, storytelling, singing and good 'ol
downhome food round out the day.
BYOC (bring your own chair) and
your genealogical records to share, if you have any. If you
don't, come on down and find out who you're kin to. Some of
the families represented so far each year are Arnold,
Bateman, Long, Warrington, Ambrose, Clifton, Furlough, Haire/Hare,
Holmes, Oliver, Phelps, Spruill, Woodley and some names long
gone. Or just enjoy the eatin', singin', and fun of
finding out how easy life has gotten! Hours are usually
10 to 4, but check local listings or call to check for
changes.
