 aced with
waterways, Washington County offers visitors the cozy seclusion of Conaby and Kendrick's Creeks, the open waters of Albemarle Sound,
the winding Roanoke and Scuppernong Rivers, and two natural lakes,
Pungo and Phelps. Enjoy the serenity of birding, fishing,
paddling, or sailing. Take
on the excitement of motor boating or water skiing. For the fastest
among us, five East Coast Drag Boat Association Races are
held annually on the waterfront in downtown Plymouth.
State-maintained ramps and parking offer convenience on all
major waterways.
For the hunter, Washington County has thousands of acres of private
and public lands with opportunities for big, small and upland game
hunting.
Every
season offers perfect days for walking nature trails and touring
historic sites. Golfers can take advantage of mild weather on Plymouth’s course
designed by William Flynn. The
200 bird species native to the Roanoke River Basin make it prime
territory for birding. Wildflower
hikes, nature photography, waterfowl counts, and more…there’s
something for everyone outdoors in Washington County.
